John Mayer reveals songwriting struggles

John Mayer has revealed that he is trying to adopt a new carefree approach to songwriting.

The 31-year-old singer admitted that he was previously worried about his lyrics because he did not want fans to compare them to tabloid rumours surrounding his personal life.

Writing on Twitter, Mayer explained: "I find it hard to write lyrics like I used to. This is not because people know so much about me, but because of what they think they know.

"So I find myself trying to guess what they think they know and then trying to steer clear of it and find another way to explain myself.

"The whole thing gets very tiresome and has led me to say 'f**k it' and write exactly like I used to."

Mayer has been linked to a number of female celebrities in the past, including Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz.
