Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz admits to not being an avid fan of comic books. When he started chatting with Los Angeles designer Darren Romanelli about developing a visual project with the band, however, the idea of creating a comic seemed like a natural fit.

"We were both kindred spirits in terms of creating cohesive art on multiple platforms," Wentz says. The collaboration between Romanelli and the band led to "Fall Out Toy Works," a five-part series published by Image Comics, with the first installment released September 2.

A futuristic parable involving a toymaker and his robotic female creation, "Toy Works" is loosely based on "Tiffany Blews," a track on Fall Out Boy's multiplatinum album "Folie a Deux."

A fan of Romanelli's fashion line, Wentz initially approached him about designing the stage for Fall Out Boy's tour. Romanelli wanted to work on something more ambitious with the band as well, and after Wentz sent him a few songs, "Tiffany Blews" struck him as the perfect opportunity.

"Once we started brainstorming, we realized a lot of the lyrics have a certain grittiness to them," Romanelli says. "From there, the idea just snowballed into a comic."

The band and Romanelli put together a team of animation heavyweights for the project, including "Bulletproof Monk" writer Brett Lewis and Imaginary Friends Studios' Sam Basri for artwork.

The self-funded comic-book series is the latest endeavor in the band's string of nonmusic projects since the 2008 release of "Deux." Wentz opened a Los Angeles art gallery with Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy in December, and in March the band unveiled "Fall Out Boy Trail," a videogame that riffs on the computer classic "Oregon Trail."

When it comes to "Toy Works," however, Fall Out Boy is committed to giving its far-reaching concept time to breathe. "The biggest thing is that it needed to feel like an entire world encapsulated in a comic," Wentz says. "It's essentially about creating the perfect girl and artificial love, and we wanted to explore the morality in that."

Publication of the series' subsequent issues, which retail for $3.99 each, will be staggered throughout next year; a full-color collector's edition will be available in spring 2010. A motion-animation companion to the comic, featuring voice work by Wentz and Fall Out Boy singer Patrick Stump, will also be available online in conjunction with the release of the second issue. The electronic version, which is now being previewed in an online teaser trailer, will be available on iPhone and iPod applications as well.

Fall Out Boy continues to work on new music, but Wentz believes "Toy Works" is another creative way of reaching out to fans in the meantime. "Music and entertainment are changing so fast, we need to be ahead of the curve," he says. "With stuff like this, we hope people can feel like they're a part of what we're doing."

Lily Allen speaks out against piracy

It seems that a fierce debate surrounding illegal and unauthorised file-sharing is in full swing within the music world. Lily Allen was one of the first stars to speak out on music piracy and she’s made it clear that in her opinion, music piracy is having a harmful effect on British music.

Other stars including James Blunt and Gary Barlow have now jumped in to support Lily’s views, they argue that illegal sharing is ruining the careers of current and new artists.

A number of musicians, including Ed O’Brien from Radiohead and Blur’s Dave Rowntree, have opposed these claims and believe that those who do file-share should not be punished.

David Hasselhoff rushed to hospital with ear infection

David Hasselhoff claims he was rushed to hospital because of an ear infection.

The former 'Baywatch’ star claims rumours he was taken to Encino Hospital by paramedics because of a heavy drinking session on Sunday (20.09.09) are untrue and says he was taken unwell after mixing two medications.

David, 57, has been taking Antivert for a severe earache along with anti-alcohol drug Antabuse – which deters alcoholics from drinking.

His attorney Mel Goldsman said: "David was being treated for an inner ear infection and had a bad reaction to his medication over the weekend. He lost his equilibrium and it left him dizzy. This was all a misunderstanding. This was not an alcohol relapse.'

It had been reported the actor had collapsed 'drunk' at his Californian home and was found by his 17-year-old daughter Hayley.

Paramedics were called and David was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

He left the medical facility on Sunday night.

The 'Knight Rider’ star has publicly battled alcoholism for several years and has been hospitalised for alcohol poisoning five times previously.

Robbie to perform again with Take That

Robbie Williams is to perform with Take That next month.

The 'Bodies’ singer has been invited to play at a special concert the group’s singer Gary Barlow is organising in aid of charity Children in Need and plans to join his former bandmates for a one-off performance.

Robbie - who quit Take That in 1995, shortly before the rest of the group went their separate ways - said: 'Yes, something is finally going to happen. Me and Gary have been hanging out a lot lately, talking things over.

'It’s been absolutely amazing. I’ve always wanted to be in a band ever since we split.'

'Grace Kelly’ star Mika is one of the other stars performing at the event at London’s Royal Albert Hall and he is excited about Robbie returning to Take That – and has promised some surprises of his own.

He told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'It would be great. I’m a real fan of Robbie and I really like his new single 'Bodies’.

'I’ll be performing a duet. I can’t say who with yet but there are going to be a lot of surprises.

'Gary has done a fantastic job. It’s going to be an amazing night.'

Meanwhile, Robbie has reportedly been taking his girlfriend alien hunting.

The singer – who recently moved back to England - has made several late-night trips to Cradle Hill, near Warminster, southern England, with actress Ayda Field to try and spot UFOs.

A source said: 'During the summer, Robbie and Ayda went on loads of late-night excursions. Cradle Hill used to be a really famous spot in the 60s and 70s where UFO hunters would gather en masse and scan the skies for signs of alien life. It’s undergone a bit of a revival recently so Robbie has taken Ayda up there to see if they can spot anything. Ayda loves it.'

Robbie, 35, is "obsessed" with extra-terrestrials, and claims to have seen three UFOs during his lifetime.

Yoko Ono praises Beatles' video game

Yoko Ono thinks the new Beatles video game will help create "a world of peace".

The 76-year-old widow of 'Fab Four'singer John Lennon has praised Beatles Rock Band - which was released earlier this month - because it merges music and art to create amazing "healing vibrations".

She explained: "I think game is the second revolution. In the beginning they made a splash with their music; with the video game we're going to create a planet of music and art.

"Music and art are both very interesting healing vibrations, and with that vibration we can create the world we've always wanted, a world of peace."

Even though Lennon has been dead for nearly 30 years, Yoko claims she is still committed to ensuring he is "treated right".

She said: "I'm thankful that I'm in a position to look after John's legacy, because that's what he wanted me to do.

"We were both artists and understood exactly what it's like when your work isn't treated properly. I'm trying my best to make sure his is treated right."

When it comes to her own life, the provocative musician hopes she is forgotten as soon as she dies.

She told Britain's Observer newspaper: "What's written about me in newspapers is usually fiction. With the press you have to learn to read between the lines.

"I don't mind if no one remembers me. If I'm going to be remembered by the fictional notes the press wrote about me, why would I want to be remembered at all?"

Avril Lavigne seen with another man

Avril Lavigne was reportedly seen flirting with another man in the lead up to her split from husband Deryck Whibley.

The 'Girlfriend’ singer - who announced she was separating from the Sum 41 rocker last week – spent a month partying on oil heir Brandon Davis’ yacht in St. Tropez, South of France, and sources say the pair have grown very close.

One is quoted by gossip blogger Perez Hilton as saying: 'She was downing shots, drinking booze from the bottle and play-fighting men on the beach.

"She wasn't acting like a married woman at all."

However, sources close to Avril insist she and Brandon are "not involved romantically" and are 'just friends'.

Last December, Deryck warned Brandon - who has also dated Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton – away from his wife after he discovered the pair had been for dinner together.

He texted Brandon, saying: "Stay away from my wife."

Even though their three-year marriage is over, Avril has vowed to stay friends with her estranged husband.

In a statement on her website, she said: "Deryck and I have been together for six-and-a-half years. We have been friends since I was 17, started dating when I was 19, and married when I was 21. I am grateful for our time together, and I am grateful and blessed for our remaining friendship.

"I admire Deryck and have a great amount of respect for him. He is the most amazing person I know, and I love him with all my heart. Deryck and I are separating and moving forward on a positive note."

Beyonce and Burke become friends

Alexandra Burke has become 'friends' with Beyonce Knowles.

The 'Single Ladies’ singer has become heavily involved with Alexandra after performing a duet with her on the final of British reality TV show 'The X Factor’ – which she subsequently won.

The 'Bad Boys’ singer has revealed Beyonce has been supporting her throughout the recording of her debut album 'Overcome’ in the US.

Alexandra, 21, said: 'She’s such a lovely woman and now I’m working with all her people.

'In the studio in New York I was singing and I opened my eyes and my girl Beyonce was standing there. I went to cuddle her and cried. She said, 'You can’t cry, we’re friends now.’ And I cried some more.

'I was like, 'You can’t tell me things like that. You’re Beyonce.’ '

Alexandra is remaining tight-lipped on whether 28-year-old Beyonce will appear on her album, but she hopes to perform with former Destiny’s Child star soon.

She added to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: 'I can’t confirm anything yet, but I’m hoping to be on the European leg of Beyonce’s tour.'

Alexandra will perform her first single 'Bad Boys’ on 'The X Factor’ on October 11.

Kelly Osbourne reveals behind-the-scenes fights

Kelly Osbourne says the 'b****ing' has started behind-the-scenes on 'Dancing with the Stars’.

The 24-year-old star, who is currently in training for the next series of the US TV talent show, has revealed this year’s contestants are getting more and more competitive as they near the start of series.

She said: 'When I first started the rehearsals, I thought the other contestants were all lovely, but it’s suddenly become much more competitive and there’s a bit of b****ing going on behind the scenes."

Kelly admits she is dreading the opening episode because she doesn’t want to be the first celebrity voted off.

She said: 'I’ve never been so terrified about anything in my life and am praying I don’t get voted out first. If that happens I’ll probably cry for a month! I’d feel so unloved."

Although Kelly is nervous, she is pleased her parents and fiance, 19-year-old model Luke Worrall, will be in the audience to support her.

She added to Britain’s Closer magazine: 'My mum Sharon, dad Ozzy and fiance Luke will be cheering me on. I’ve never ever danced in front of people before – I feel sick thinking about it!

"There’s a rumour floating around that one of the celeb dancers has been having secret lessons for two years! That is so not fair."

Katie Price chose her horses over her marriage

Katie Price chose her horses over her marriage.

The glamour model claims Peter Andre – who she will be divorced from in just a few weeks - became so jealous of her close relationship with married dressage teacher Andrew Gould he issued her with an ultimatum.

Katie - also known as Jordan - said: 'It basically got to the point where it was my marriage or my horses.

'He said if I didn’t move my horses it would be over. Why the hell should I have to do that because of what Pete says?'

Katie, 31, has always insisted her relationship with Andrew is platonic and they are just close friends.

In this week’s UK edition of OK! magazine the brunette beauty is seen posing for pictures alongside Andrew and in another shot is having a play fight with his wife Polly.

Peter originally walked out on his three-and-a-half-year marriage to Katie in May after pictures of her were published on a night out apparently flirting with Andrew.

Andrew and Polly have also hit out against the 'Behind Closed Doors’ singer, with Andrew revealing Peter quizzed him as to whether he was attracted to Katie.

Since splitting, Katie is now dating cage-fighter Alex Reid, while Peter has denied he has moved on romantically.

The Saturdays don’t think they’re sexy

The British girl group – famed for their skimpy clothes and raunchy dance routines - can’t understand all the male attention they attract but admit it’s flattering to be considered attractive.

Singer Frankie Sandford said: 'I don’t think we are sex symbols. It’s cool, but I don’t really think of myself in that way. It’s funny when you see things written about you. Our agent opened up a magazine the other day on the plane and there was a picture of me with my a**e hanging out. It was really awkward – we both sat there looking at my a**e! But it’s cool. It’s nice if people think we’re hot.'

Although they wear provocative outfits on stage, band member Una Healy claims they always look 'classy'.

She told Zoo magazine: 'It’s not exactly what you’d wear to walk down the street! It’s very sexy and we’re not ashamed of it. But we’re not sl**s either. We’re classily sexy.

'Every girl goes out on a Saturday night to be a sex symbol. When I walk into a bar, I never feel special because so many of the girls are stunning.'

Frankie and Una are joined in The Saturdays by Mollie King, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman.

Mel B loses luggage

Mel B nearly had to go without underwear when she arrived back in the UK.

The star was left without any luggage after she flew from her Los Angeles home to meet with her former Spice Girls bandmates and family last week in her home country.

Luckily, 34-year-old Mel is an underwear model for lingerie company Ultimo, who were able to help her out of her predicament.

She explained: 'Things didn’t get off to a very good start, as I arrived with no luggage and, as a result, no underwear. Luckily, being the face and body of Ultimo I was able to phone them up and get them to send over another set of the new collection to my hotel, which was a lifesaver.'

Mel flew back to the US over the weekend and has since starred in a raunchy photo shoot for Ultimo in Las Vegas – which after two years will be her last for the company.

Ultimo boss Michelle Mone is now searching for another celebrity to become the next face and body of the lingerie brand.

She said: 'We’ll really miss Mel, she’s been amazing, but this is the last campaign she’ll be appearing in.

'Mel is a bold, sexy icon of female empowerment and has been an incredible asset to Ultimo.'

Previous star models include Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding and Kimberly Stewart.

Michael Jackson London memorabilia show

Michael Jackson’s belongings are going on show in London.

A display of memorabilia and items owned by the late pop singer is being shipped from America to The O2 arena, where the 'Thriller’ star was scheduled to perform his 50-date 'This Is It’ residency, after his family gave their blessing to the exhibition.

A source said: 'Negotiations have been going on for a long time. Everyone was keen to ensure disappointed fans who had tickets for his 'This Is It’ concerts still get to enjoy part of him.

'Finally his family have given the go-ahead and are rooting through the treasure troves to dig out special artifacts.'

Items expected to go on display include some of the star’s iconic stage outfits and nymph statues from the garden of his Neverland home.

Following the exhibition in London, the collection will be displayed at various venues throughout the world before being housed in a permanent museum.

The singer’s father Joe said: 'Michael’s legacy will live on.'

Full details of the exhibition, including dates and ticket prices, are expected to be announced this week.

While fans will get the chance to see at the singer’s possessions, residents in Arkansas can get even closer by riding the Ferris Wheel he used to have at Neverland.

Archway Amusements Corporation bought the ride, which was installed at Michael’s Californian ranch in 1990, last year and it travels fairgrounds around America’s Mid-West region.

Theresa Noerper, co-owner of Archway Amusements Corp., said: 'We ourselves really didn't advertise it. When he died, it kind of blew up. There's no keeping secrets then.

"Fans come to take pictures, a couple tears and everybody likes to ride it.'

The ride will next be used at the Northeast Arkansas District Fair in Jonesboro this week, while a Lolli Swing also from the singer’s garden is being used at the Central Washington State Fair, one of five rides bought from Neverland by California’s Butlers Amusements.

Christina Aguilera talks of childhood abuse

Christina Aguilera says living with an abusive father helped her become a successful singer.

The 'Beatiful’ singer star was the victim of domestic abuse when she was growing up and also regularly witnessed her father Fausto attack her mother Shelly.

Christina turned to music to help her cope with the trauma, and insists it was her tough upbringing that inspired her to follow her dream.

She said: "I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things - a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling. Growing up I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from."

Shelly eventually left her husband when she found a four-year-old Christina covered in blood.

Shelly revealed in a TV documentary: "I scooped her up and said, 'Oh my God. What's wrong?' She told me, 'Daddy wanted to take a nap and I made too much noise.’ '

Fausto has since begged for forgiveness but Christina refuses to have contact with him.

The 'Candyman’ singer – who has a 20-month-old son Max with husband Jordan Bratman – said: "I let him back into my life briefly but I soon realised that he is not necessary in my life."

Taylor Swift likes buying coffee

Taylor Swift likes being famous because she can buy other people coffee.

The 'Love Story’ singer insists she loves sharing her good fortune with other people, and particularly loves surprising strangers with her generosity.

She said: 'Now I’m in a better position to be a bigger tipper when I’m out at a restaurant. People don’t expect it and you can make their day.

'I like going through a Starbucks drive-through and paying for the person behind, just because it’s nice.'

Despite her fame, the 19-year-old singer insists she is still careful with her money and takes advice from her father on how to invest and save.

She added to Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: 'I think it’s crazy as a star that you get free stuff when you can afford it.

'I don’t spend a lot of money. My dad is a financial advisor and has given me a lot of advice.'

Meanwhile, Taylor insists she has forgiven Kanye West for invading the stage during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards.

She said: 'I’ve forgiven him as I don’t want to start anything. I’d never met Kanye before, and was a fan.'

Kanye – who took to the stage to insist Beyonce Knowles should have won – has since apologised for his actions.

He said: "That was Taylor's moment and I had no right in anyway to take it from her. I am truly sorry."
