Gerard Way reveals new MCR LP details

Gerard Way has claimed that My Chemical Romance's upcoming album will feature the "greatest song" that the band has ever written.

The singer and lyricist discussed the progress of the follow-up to 2006's The Black Parade during an appearance at Comic-Con to promote his latest comic books.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, he said: "The songs are all wildly different, but the one I'm really excited about is called 'Death Before Disco'.

"It's a completely different sound for the band - it's like an anti-party song that you can party to. I can't wait for people to hear it.

"It brings back, lyrically, some of that wonderful fiction from the first album. I think we wrote our 'Born to Run', and I'm so amped about that. To me, it's the greatest song we've ever written - it's my favourite MCR song."

Way added that the group are "right in the middle" of producing the as-yet-untitled record, which is expected to be released later this year or early 2010.

Rihanna earned £10 million in one year

Rihanna earned an estimated £10 million last year, it has been claimed.

The 'Umbrella' singer is expected to become one of the world's richest popstars following the success of her third album Good Girl Gone Bad and a number of high profile endorsements.

According to Forbes magazine, the 21-year-old profited from a re-release of the LP, which spawned an impressive seven singles, as well as a world tour and contract with fashion giant Gucci.

The Bajan singer has reportedly enlisted Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Jay-Z to work on her new album, scheduled for release next year.

Placebo release ‘The Never-Ending Why’

Lifted from their now critically-acclaimed, top five (in twenty countries!) album 'Battle For The Sun’, Placebo are pleased to announce the release of their new single 'The Never-Ending Why’ on the 7th of September.

High energy and utterly infectious, 'The Never-Ending Why’ harks back to classic Placebo, kicking into life with a dense barrage of noise and building into a chorus that clamps itself onto your brain and refuses to let go. The single will be available on 7' vinyl with an exclusive b-side and as a download bundle that will feature the 7' tracks plus a remix.

Placebo have been highly active on the live circuit this year with 25 European festival appearances this summer alone (including a return to the mainstage at the Reading/Leeds festivals this August), followed by a huge arena tour booked for this December that includes a headline appearance at The O2 Arena in London on December 9th.

The December dates are as follows:

Tuesday 08th Birmingham LG Arena
Wednesday 09th London The O2
Friday 11th Bridlington Spa
Saturday 12 Manchester Central
Monday 14th Glasgow SECC
Tuesday 15th Dublin Olympia Theatre
Wednesday 16th Dublin Olympia Theatre

Whitney Houston album is pushed forward

WHITNEY HOUSTON is set to release her new album earlier than expected.

The highly-anticipated I Look To You was due to go on sale on September 1.

But because of "continuous excitement" stemming from listening parties, it'll be available a day earlier on August 31.

Houston recently admitted that she was inspired by her personal ups and downs in the seven years when writing the album.

Shakira is desperate for a baby

Shakira is desperate to "reproduce".

The 'Beautiful Liar' singer is certain her fiance Antonio de la Rua – the son of Argentina's former president Fernando de La Rua - is the "right person" to start a family with, and is planning to start trying for a baby as soon as possible.

The 32-year-old star said: "I constantly think about raising a family. I want to reproduce so bad! Antonio and I have been together for nine years and function as a married couple even though we're not married.

"I don't think you find the right person in your life more than once. I don't even think about how famous he is. We look at each other as a man and a woman and that's it. We try to live a normal life and I keep my family close to me so I still feel like a real person."

Shakira also reflected on 'Beautiful Liar' - her "thrilling" 2007 collaboration with Beyonce Knowles.

She added to Britain’s Look magazine: "It was fantastic to work with her. She's an amazing performer and very sweet. The song was her idea and I was so thrilled. She's a very determined and focused woman and that's something to admire."

Jay-Z to write about marriage to Beyonce

Jay-Z is planning to tell all about his marriage in a new book.

The ’99 Problems’ rapper is set to pen an autobiography in which he will open up about his life with wife Beyonce Knowles, despite the pair making a pact to not speak about their relationship publicly.

A source said: 'It’s going to cover everything from his days on the streets as a drug dealer to his fairytale wedding to Beyonce.

'He’ll also be revealing his rapping secrets.'

A spokesperson for the star confirmed plans for the tome, which as yet has no title or release date.

Its release is expected to tie in with his next album, 'The Blueprint 3’, which is due to come out in September.

The hip-hop star – real name Shawn Carter – previously scrapped plans for an autobiography, saying it would be too personal to write.

Beyonce – who married 39-year-old Jay-Z in secret last April after dating him for around six years – has often credited the pair’s refusal to discuss their relationship as the key to its longevity.

She said: 'I think I have a successful, long-lasting relationship, longer than most people’s in the industry, so I must be doing something right.

'It’s important for people to know that there’s a line you can’t cross in this. It’s real. It’s not like some fairytale that people watch for entertainment – it’s real life and it’s important to keep it to yourself.

'We worked really hard at keeping our wedding private. I've always been this way, and he's always been this way, so that's why we complement each other. We always knew that it would be private and quiet, for all the right reasons."

Joel Madden writes his memoirs

Joel Madden is writing a memoir.

The Good Charlotte rocker - who is expecting his second child with girlfriend Nicole Richie - believes the time is right for him to pen a tome about all the things he has been through.

He said: "It would be about my life. It would be about, mostly, the big changes in my life - kids, relationships, moving to Los Angeles the big life changes that I've gone through."

The 30-year-old musician is determined to put as much effort as possible into the book, as he wants to ensure it is a significant reflection of the highs and lows he has suffered.

He explained: "I'm lightly working on one, but I don't want to put a book out there if it's not actually meaningful. I'm not going to go there unless I can deliver.

"If I put a book out, I want it to be something that matters to me. It has to be real, you can't just put a book out, to put a book out. I want every page to mean something."

Joel and Nicole already have 18-month-old daughter Harlow together.

Nelly Furtado to release Spanish album

Nelly Furtado says singing in Spanish is 'liberating'.

The 'Maneater’ singer – who was born in Canada to Portuguese parents – is set to release 'Mi Plan’, her first album in the language.

Nelly admits she found it easier to get close to her emotions in a different language.

She said: "I think this album has some of my first true love songs ever. They're not complicated. They're not over-intellectualised, and I found it liberating to be able to sing in the Latin language and to express myself from my Latin soul.'

The 'Promiscuous’ star made the decision to record in Spanish after touring her 2006 smash hit album 'Loose’ left her creatively exhausted.

She explained: "I was physically tired and I wasn't feeling inspired. It was almost as if I lost my pop inspiration to write in English. I just needed a new outlet, and I found it by writing in Spanish."

The album, set for release in September, features a range of guest artists, including collaborations with Mexican singers Alejandro Fernandez and Julieta Venegas and Latin hip-hop singer La Mala Rodriguez.

However, Nelly revealed working with classical star Josh Groban on 'Silencio’ was a 'huge blessing'.

She added: "I thought it was important to showcase on this album an artist that people know more for their English recordings. So, I thought by working with Josh would actually elevate my point that language isn't a barrier when it comes to music."

Estelle denies slagging off Rihanna

ESTELLE has denied reports that she has engaged in an online war with Rihanna.

The singer slammed The Sun newspaper after it claimed that the American Boy singer took to her Twitter.com page to comment on the latest collaboration between Jay-Z and his protegee Rihanna.

The paper said that Estelle claimed she could have sung the chorus for Run This Town much better, and allegedly wrote: "Rihanna just doesn’t do it for me.'

But she released a statement that insisted that the comment was made by one of her followers on the micro-blogging site.

Speaking to MTV.com, she said: "Twitter is a funny old thing. I just need to be clear though. I have not said anything at all about me wanting to be on the Jay Z / Kanye / Rihanna track.

'Someone else twittered that remark to me and one of the U.K. tabloids then chose to 'rewrite' this and post it online... Watching this unfold, it is crazy that something that I didn't even say can end up as such a big news story.'

Kelly Clarkson: 'I didn't copy Beyoncé'

Kelly Clarkson has denied the suggestion that she ripped off Beyoncé's hit single 'Halo' for her upcoming track 'Already Gone'.

The singer explained that the similarity between the two songs resulted from both artists working with songwriter-producer Ryan Tedder of One Republic, CBC News reports.

Clarkson said: "Ryan and I met each other at the record label, before he was working with anyone else. We wrote about six songs together, four or five of them made the album.

"It was all fine and dandy. I'd never heard of a song called 'Halo'. Her album came out when my album was already being printed."

She added: "No-one's gonna be sittin' at home, thinking, 'Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to'. No, they're just gonna be saying I ripped someone off. I called Ryan and said, 'I don't understand. Why would you do that?'"

The former American Idol star claimed that she "fought and fought" to prevent her record label from releasing the track as a single, but the company refused to agree to her request.

Clarkson said: "In the end, they're releasing it without my consent. It sucks, but it's one of those things I have no control over.

"I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It's kind of a s**tty situation, but... you know, you learn."

Miley Cyrus wishes she had other talents

MILEY CYRUS has reportedly admitted she wished she had another talent.

The singer and actress said if she wasn't in the music business, she would aspire to be a painter or photographer.

Speaking to the Star Telegram, she said: "I would like to be a photographer, and honestly, I am the worst painter, but if I could be anything I would want to be a painter, but I can't paint so that [crosses] that out.

"I love playing my guitar. I always have my guitar with me. That is my favourite thing, is writing the music."

She added that the downside to being famous is constantly being away from home.

She said: "The best thing is the travelling and meeting new people, and the worst thing is the travelling. It is the best and worst because I am away from home all the time.

"Also, it is fun to meet new people and see new things and go places that you probably wouldn't be able to go."

Avril Lavinge strips down new album

AVRIL LAVINGE is going back to her roots for her next album.

The singer said she will abandon the "cheerleader" style of her last album The Best Damn Thing, for a more traditional sound.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: "[The Best Damn Thing] was intended to be fun, to be rockin'. All I had in my mind was my live show, running around on stage, getting the crowd involved.

"This record, I just really, really wanted to sing. We started recording each song, some of them, just with acoustic guitar and the vocal and building it from there. It's stripped down. I love performing that way, so I really felt like it was time to make a record like that. To just make it all about the vocal and the performance, and the vibe, and the emotion."

She added: "I was always really honest in my lyrics. I think more so when I was younger, and now it's kind of come back to that. Just like, you know what? I'm not trying to write a perfect pop song. I'm just trying to write a song that's honest right now, even if something sounds weird or a lyric might not make sense to someone."

Jackson lay in state without his nose

Michael Jackson's nose was missing as he lay in state.

An eyewitness claims he saw the singer's body on an autopsy table with part of his face completely disappeared.

The witness said: "The prosthesis he normally attached to his damaged nose was missing, revealing bits of cartilage surrounding a small dark hole."

Jackson - who died a month ago today of a suspected cardiac arrest - was believed to have had a number of surgical operations change the shape of his nose, which eventually eroded it away. He was also thought to be obsessed with plastic surgery and altering his appearance.

The witness added: "Jackson's face - which he had so painfully reworked and concealed from the public for decades now - lay out in the open undisguised under the harsh lights."

One of the 'King Of Pop's former housekeepers has previously told how the singer kept a number of false noses, which he applied using plasters and glue.

Adrian McManus said: "In his closet he had a jar of fake noses and stage glue, which he told me he used for disguises. But some were similar to his real nose, just without the hole."

Reasons for Jackson's fascination with surgery are unclear, though he has hinted it was because he was bullied as a child. Other sources said he was desperate not to look like his father, Joe Jackson, whom he had accused of hitting him as a youngster and aking fun of his appearance.

Pussycat Doll is naturally sexy

Nicole Scherzinger says being "sexy" comes naturally to her.

The Pussycat Dolls singer believes it's her inner confidence that makes her attractive to the opposite sex, not her skimpy stage outfits.

She said: "Sexy is a confidence that comes from within so I don't think you have to be all glammed and dolled up to be sexy. I think you could be naturally sexy with jeans and a T-shirt or a skirt. I don't know if it's like an inner sense of humour or just a light that shines from within.

"I take the attention from men as a compliment! I think that ultimately comes from a confidence which comes from within so yes, that confidence is empowering."

Nicole - who is dating Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton - believes her self-assurance has grown since she joined the girl group in 2003.

She added: "I definitely think the Pussycat Dolls has brought out an inner Pussycat within me. I feel like when I'm onstage and the lights come on, a different persona comes over me. And I just take on a whole other animal or beast.

"I don't know if it's in the lights or if it's in the fans or just a combination of all of that, but I guess that's when the Pussycat Doll comes out in me."

Billy Joel struck down with flu

BILLY JOEL has been forced to postpone a joint concert with Sir Elton Jonh after he fell ill with flu-like symptoms.

The pair was due to play a sold-out gig in Buffalo, New York last night as part of their Face to Face world tour but doctors ordered Joel to rest.

A rescheduled date for the show is expected to be announced next week.

Rihanna goes on secret date with Mr Hudson

RIHANNA has gone on a secret date with Mr Hudson.

The Umbrella singer took the British R&B star to the London premiere of the new Quentin Tarantino film 'Inglorious Basterds' this week.

But she made sure she was not seen with him until the film started and they were later spotted together again at the screening's afterparty.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Rihanna didn't want to make a big deal out of her going on a date with Mr Hudson, so she never told anyone she was bringing him.

"They have been meeting up secretly and on the red carpet they refused to be pictured together. Once they were inside the cinema though, they were stuck together like glue and then they both slipped out of the back door at the end to go for a meal."

Rihanna, 21, is believed to have been introduced to Mr Hudson by Kanye West.

Jackson's friend begged him to give up painkillers

URI GELLER has revealed that he confronted Michael Jackson about his drug taking after finding him passed out one day.

Speaking on TV documentary 'My Friend Michael Jackson: Uri's Story', the psychic spoon bender said: "I've never seen him take anything, but I've seen the aftermath and the aftermath sometimes was devastating.

"I couldn't wake Michael up one day. I grabbed his body and I kind of tried to wake him up. I was really concerned. I said, 'Michael what have you done, what have you taken? Michael open your eyes, are you OK?'

"There were moments when we tried to forcefully explain to him that he can't go on with this. And he would say, 'Don't tell me, this is my private life, stop, stop there.' "

On another occasion, Uri confronted his friend after finding him motionless in bed and believes Michael knew one day his addiction to prescription medications would end his life.

He added: "I really shouted, 'Michael, Michael stop it, Michael you will die, you're killing yourself. Look at you, the world needs you, nobody wants to lose you.'

"And he was there in bed and he just stared at me and you know, I'm sure he knew of course, I'm sure he knew but only God knows now why, why he did this."

Pussycat Doll to give men high heel lessons

Kimberly Wyatt is to teach men to move in high heels.

The Pussycat Dolls singer is set to lead a two-day dance course in London and has promised to show people how to boost their confidence by walking in the sexy footwear.

She said: "I find it amazing how you can tell how insecure a person is from their walk.

"Some girls don't know their left from their right. I will be teaching how to walk and dance in high heels. Guys can do it too - maybe not in heels - but they can improve their walk."

The blonde star also revealed she is planning to follow in the footsteps of her bandmate Nicole Scherzinger and work on solo projects, but insisted the girl band are not planning to quit.

She added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "I'm working on a solo album with rapper Baby Bash.

"It's a dance pop record and I'm so excited by it. It's not the end of the band though. It's the foundation for our solo projects. We are all independent girls but will always be the Pussycat Dolls as well."

Despite being excited by the dance classes and her solo album, Kimberly's ultimate dream is to break into movies.

She explained: "I loved movies like 'Flashdance' and 'Fame' as a kid and I'm glad that people are loving dance again. My dream is to star in my own dance movie."

Usher's ex isn't after his money

Usher's estranged wife wasn't a gold-digger, insists her friend.

Tameka Foster - who has two children, 19-month-old Usher V and eight-month-old Naviyd Ely, with the R'n'B star - is tired of rumours suggesting the make-up artist only married Usher to get her hands on his fortune.

Nyeisha Dewitt, Tameka's best pal, said: "To say that she's a gold-digger...that's just not the case. That just totally discredits her as a professional, as an entrepreneur, as a creative thinker, and it just totally destroys anything that she took her money and time to build.

"People say that she just had a baby so that she could get paid. Why can't you just be a regular person who has a wonderful job, a great career, who's well respected for the work that they do, and be happy with that and then just fall in love with someone? Then you turn into a gold-digger? How does that happen?"

Nyeisha insists Tameka and Usher were the perfect couple when they married in August 2007.

She said: "They just seemed to really complement one another in that way and bring out one another's strengths and balance each other out."

Usher filed for divorce from his wife of two years in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 12, claiming they had been living apart for almost a year.

The documents stated there was "no reasonable hope of reconciliation" and the relationship was "irretrievably broken".

He has also filed for joint custody of Raymond and Naviyd.

Hilton says Jackson named daughter after her

PARIS HILTON has said that Michael Jackson named his only daughter after her.

Speaking to Extra, the socialite said her mother had gone to high school with the late signer and the pair had been "best friends since they were 13".

She said: "I grew up knowing Michael very well and when he had his daughter, he always loved the name Paris and grew up being an uncle to me.

"So he asked my mum if it was okay, and of course she said yes, and I think she's such a beautiful little girl and I'm proud we have the same name."

Jackson had three children: Prince Michael, 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and 7-year-old Blanket.

Blink-182 Prove They Haven't Lost A Step At Raucous Tour Kickoff In Vegas

The reunited band is goofy, loud and self-effacing, but certainly not nostalgic.
By James Montgomery

LAS VEGAS — "Motherf---, sh--, f---." Those were Blink-182's first words to the fans on Thursday night at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, two songs into the first show on their massive summer reunion tour.

They were spoken by Mr. Thomas DeLonge — who really has a flair for that type of thing — and, if anything, they served notice that though he and his Blink bandmates might have gotten older, spent nearly half a decade apart from one another, launched various side projects and clothing lines, starred in reality-TV programs, started families and become godfathers of a scene they never intended to create, they really haven't changed a bit.

And that was basically the theme of Thursday night's show, which despite a few extra bells and whistles (not to mention a rotating drum kit), was just a really great Blink show at its heart. Nostalgic it wasn't. Goofy, funny, loud, raucous, self-effacing and profane it most certainly was.

Opening with "Dumpweed," from 1999's breakthrough Enema of the State, then launching headlong into "Feeling This," from their final, self-titled disc, Blink showed no signs of rust or nerves — this was, after all, the kickoff of their first tour since 2004. Rather, it was like they had just emerged from a time capsule, perfectly preserved. DeLonge still battered his guitar (and slurred the words like crazy), Mark Hoppus still struck at his bass (and pogoed a lot), and Travis Barker still bashed his kit (and didn't wear a shirt).

They played a copious amount of hits (after DeLonge's opening salutation, "Rock Show" was followed by "What's My Age Again?," "First Date" and "Adam's Song"), and some lesser-known stuff ("Not Now," "Going Away to College," "Anthem Part Two"), all of which were eaten alive by the sweaty, throaty crowd. Oh, and the between-song banter? Well, let's just say they never lost a step in that department, either. It bears mention that nearly 90 percent of the stuff was unprintable, but some PG-13 gems on this night included Hoppus launching into a longwinded parody of Waylon Jennings' narration on "The Dukes of Hazzard" before stopping and proclaiming, "I'm 37, by the way ... fart!" and DeLonge running through about 15 different scenarios in which the audience could have sex with various members of their family.

This is not to say that the whole show was one continuous pee-pee-and-poo-poo spiel. Blink also proved that with age comes the ability to flat-out play, and they showcased their chops on a variety of show-stopping numbers, including a long, jammy take on "I Miss You" and a moody version of "Stockholm Syndrome," which started ominous and somber, then mutated into a gnarly exercise in shredding.

Blink-182 Reunion Tour Kicks Off In Las Vegas

Barker also got his chance to shine, in the form of an extended drum solo that saw him pound away to remixed versions of tracks like Jay-Z's "Dirt off Your Shoulder," while his drum kit whirled around in ever quickening 360s (sadly, we didn't get the full, "Barker and his kit soar over the audience" version on this night, since the Hard Rock was too small a venue). That, too, was greeted with thunderous applause and many camera phones held alight.

Barker's pyrotechnic display came right after Blink had finished their set. His bandmates then re-emerged from backstage to rip though a taut, retro-leaning encore: "Carousel," from their '94 Cheshire Cat debut, and — of course — "Dammit," from '97's Dude Ranch. It was the latter that the kids in the audience had been clamoring for, and when its speedy opening chords hit, the crowd went bananas, moshing as best they could, thrusting fists in the air and crowd-surfing with abandon.

Then, as the feedback was still washing over the stage, DeLonge stepped back to the mic, searching for a perfect way to end the night. This is what he came up with:

"You guys are so f---ing cute! You're so godd--- sexual! I don't really know what to say. Masturbate!"

It was a nice bookend, really. Some things never change.

Pussycat Doll 'opens up about band rift'

Kimberly Wyatt has spoken out about the problems threatening to tear the Pussycat Dolls apart.

The 'Jai Ho!' singer has accused music bosses of favouritism by focusing on lead singer Nicole Scherzinger, noting that the group's last two singles have featured Scherzinger's name as well as the band's.

Wyatt is quoted as saying: "It's true, there has always been a lot of focus on Nicole, which has been hard to deal with sometimes. This group was created with a foundation, they knew exactly what they wanted and they had Nicole as the focus. Every video and stage performance that we've done, Nicole has been our leader."

She continued: "I wasn't in videos like I wanted and wasn't seen in the way I was hoping, which has been the same for all the other girls too. I don't really make any of the decisions, I'm in the group and can voice my opinions to a degree but at the end of the day it is a business and there are a lot of chefs in the kitchen that run the Pussycat Dolls."

Wyatt's bandmate Melody Thornton allegedly criticised Scherzinger on stage at a gig in Phoenix earlier this year.

Jackson's alleged fourth child is welcomed

Michael Jackson's suspected fourth child will be welcomed into his family, according to his brother.

Jermaine Jackson has pledged to treat Omer Bhatti - whom Jackson claims he fathered after a one night stand in 1984 - like Michael's other three children, Prince Michael I, 12, Paris, 11 and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket.

Jermaine told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "If Omer is his son, he's his son. We won't deny it. We are going to give him the same amount of love and care that we give Prince and Paris and Blanket.

"I can't clearly say if he is Michael's but I saw this kid around him."

Omer - who was invited by Michael's sister Rebbie to sit with the family in the front row at his memorial service earlier this month - is seeking a DNA test to discover if he is Michael's son.

If he is proved to be the singer's child, the 25-year-old Norwegian dancer could be entitled to a share of his estimated £1 billion fortune.

Omer's family refuse to speak about whether he is related to the Beat It singer, but his mother Pia and step-father Riz both moved to Neverland with Omer in 1997 and were employed by Michael.

The family returned to Norway when the King of Pop hit financial trouble and had to lay them off around three years ago.

There are also rumours Pia could be the unidentified mother of the pop icon's youngest child Blanket, and is said to have been nanny to him after he was born in 2002.

While Omer may be welcomed to the Jackson family, there are still questions as to who will raise Michael's other three children, as a custody battle is emerging between Michael's mother Katherine and the mother of the eldest two children Debbie Rowe.

Michael's sister Rebbie, 59, will be a key figure in the upbringing of the children if Katherine does win permanent custody, and she is believed to be presently caring for them day-to-day at 79-year-old Katherine's home in Encino, Los Angeles

Emma Watson attending University

“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson was keeping quiet about her college selection, but now she’s spilled the beans to Paste Magazine: the 19-year-old will attend Brown University in the fall.
“I am going to Brown, which is an Ivy League establishment in the U.S.A.” She told Paste.
Emma says she plans on studying literature at the Providence, R.I., university. “It sounds so geeky," she tells Paste, "but I really do like studying and reading, and if I’m not working on 'Harry Potter,' then my greatest relaxation is to sit with a book. That’s how I escape stress -- in literature.”In the same interview, Emma reiterates her desire to have a normal undergraduate experience: “I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as 'Emma Watson, the student from the U.K.' rather than 'Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films,' she tells Paste. That shouldn't be too hard. Unless, of course, her roommate plasters the wall with “Half-Blood Prince”

Kings of Leon Announce Fall Tour, Go Platinum

Nashville rock band the Kings of Leon today announced dates for a 30-plus-date North American arena trek this fall. The announcement comes just as their 2008 album "Only By the Night" has been certified platinum by the RIAA -- the first U.S. platinum certification for a band that has sold millions internationally.

After a July 31 appearance on the Today Show, the tour will kick off August 7 with the band's headlining stint at Lollapalooza in Chicago and continue through October. They will also perform on the "Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" on August 24.

"Only By the Night" hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200, while single "Sex On Fire" topped Billboard's Modern Rock Chart and won a Grammy for best rock performance by a duo or group. The platinum certification is awarded for shipments of at least a million, and the album has sold 959,000 units in the U.S. to date according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As Billboard Magazine previously reported (cover story, Feb. 21), the Kings of Leon became international superstars before making a real impact at home -- "Only By the Night" sold millions of copies worldwide and went Platinum in multiple countries before breaking the 400,000 mark in the U.S.

"The market has come around to the band," RCA VP/GM Tom Corson told Billboard earlier this year. "It's just their time. The band has put the work in over the years, they have their finest album to date, and consumers are into it."

Here are the Kings of Leon's tour dates:

August 7: Chicago, IL (Lollapalooza)
August 9: Morrison, CO (Red Rocks Amphitheater)
August 12: Edmonton, AB (Rexall Place)
August 13: Calgary, AB (Pengrowth Saddledome)
August 15: Vancouver, BC (General Motors Place)

The Michael Jackson Movie You Never Saw

He may be known for his music, but few knew Michael Jackson also enjoyed another artistic outlet: the movies.

The King of Pop's long association with a small-time filmmaker led to a featured role in a campy 2007 film unknown to many of his fans, and may well have led to another project he was developing (see video below).

"He was very excited about making movies and wanted his hands on everything, from working on screenplays to producing, to writing the music," said B-movie producer, writer and director Bryan Michael Stoller of Jackson, who starred in the 1978 pic "The Wiz." "However, he never showed any interest in acting,"

Three months before his death, Stoller says Jackson committed to co-directing and financing a movie -- a poignant drama about foster children -- and planned to get started as soon as he completed his London concerts.

It's a small indie project that might not have exactly been getting a big studio rollout or a prime spot at Sundance. But like other posthumous revelations, the news sheds light on the wide-ranging, if often quirky, excursions the singer made when he wasn't cultivating his career as a pop star.

Stoller said he had a 23-year friendship with the pop star and was his partner in the film company Magic Shadows. He was to have co-directed the movie, called "They Cage the Animals at Night," which Stoller said they had been developing for seven years.

The project was based on a 1985 book about the real-life experiences of author Jennings Michael Burch, who bounced around foster homes as a child. Jackson showed the book to Stoller in 2002 at his Neverland estate and asked if he wanted to produce and co-direct a movie version.

"Michael told me often he felt like he grew up as an orphan, like a foster kid, because he never was in one home," Stoller said. "To him every hotel was like a different foster home. He said he used to sit in the window and see kids playing outside and cry because he couldn't be part of that."

But insiders in the Jackson camp said there was no formal deal in place for any Jackson involvement in "Cage"; discussions between the artist and Stoller occurred when Jackson was without management, which may have frowned on any distractions as he prepared for the London shows.

Stoller optioned the book for $1 -- initially without telling Burch about Jackson's involvement. When he did tell him, Stoller said the author was excited to work with the singer.

Jackson, meanwhile, was concerned that Burch, then 67 and suffering from cancer, might not survive to see the movie made. So Stoller suggested bringing Burch to Neverland in 2003, where Jackson turned the tables and interviewed him for what was to be a TV special and for the eventual DVD.

Stoller recorded their meeting, which added to a collection of videos he made with Jackson over the years, and to hours of audio recordings from their meetings.

Stoller told THR he has now come forward because he believes this material humanizes his friend at a time when much myth-making about Jackson is taking place. The producer also is marketing his video, audio and photos either for outright sale or as a project he would produce and direct.

He said he already has had interest from NBC, CBS and E!

Jackson's last film foray was a 2005 comedic farce, "Miss Cast Away and the Island Girls," produced, written and directed by Stoller. Jackson is briefly in the movie as Agent M.J., who comes to the rescue of various characters on a beam of light. The movie was a direct-to-DVD release sold briefly at Blockbuster stores.

When Jackson was indicted on child molestation charges shortly after its release, Blockbuster pulled the film from its shelves. "Miss Castaway" has been sold overseas by Showcase Entertainment, and Stoller said he has offers for a new domestic video release for Jackson's last movie appearance.

"They Cage the Animals" also was impacted by the molestation charges, Stoller said. In 2003 the producer arranged a three-hour meeting in a Universal City hotel between Jackson and Mel Gibson, who besides being an actor is a producer and partner in Icon Prods. "They got along great," Stoller said. "It was kind of funny. Mel was a little nervous. He was hugging a pillow the whole time, kind of playing with it. Michael was kind of shy."

Icon signed a deal to develop the project with a budget of $12 million-$20 million, according to Stoller, who was paid by Icon to write the screenplay. A couple months later, when Jackson was indicted in Santa Barbara, Icon put the project in turnaround, and Gibson stopped returning Stoller's phone calls. There were news reports in 2005 that Icon had dropped the project. A spokesman for Icon said the company briefly was involved in developing it in 1995 but had lost interest by 1997. Stoller has a copy of his contract with Icon dated 2002.

Stoller said Icon still owns the screenplay, but an Icon rep rebutted that, saying the company has had no involvement or ownership for 10 years. Gibson declined comment for this report.

Jackson did meet with Burch, and during their highly charged conversation he asked the author if he had ever considered suicide. Burch said he had, and Jackson said he too had considered it during his darkest days.

Jackson lost contact with Stoller for about two years during the period when the singer was on trial. But after his acquittal, Jackson reached out to him. They had watched dozens of movies in the Neverland theater; Stoller said Jackson's favorite was "To Kill a Mockingbird," and that they also discussed doing a remake of the comedy musical "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

"When Jackson called in 2007, he still had movies on his mind," Stoller said. "He had begun to purchase movie production equipment. He was always asking how things work, but I never saw him really work things. But he wanted all the toys. He bought a dolly and wanted me to show the kids how to use it because they were using it as a play toy, riding around on it."

Jackson wasn't interested in making a blockbuster. "He wanted to do movies the Academy would like," Stoller recalled.

Three months before his death, Stoller said he and Jackson had "a pretty serious meeting" about reviving "They Cage the Animals" as an indie feature.

"Michael was going to put up $8 million and not have to deal with any studios or producers and then take it to the studios afterward," Stoller said. "He was very passionate about being a director. He was determined to make this movie."

Lily Allen backs La Roux for Mercury prize

Lily Allen has backed newcomers La Roux to scoop the Mercury music prize.

The 24-year-old, whose LP It's Not Me It's You missed out on making the shortlist, lent her support to the 'In For The Kill' duo's self-titled debut album.

"I hope La Roux wins," she wrote on her Twitter blog.

Bookmakers William Hill have installed Kasabian and Florence and Machine as early favourites, with Sweet Billy Pilgrim as 10/1 outsiders.

Previous winners include Arctic Monkeys, Dizzee Rascal and Elbow

Artic Mongkeys - single release

So, as probably the only person on the planet to not think the Arctic Monkeys were the best thing since sliced bread as soon as they released their debut and it’s follow up, perhaps I’m not the best person to be reviewing this single. Setting aside all prejudice and preconception though, it ain’t half bad. And that from the 'pen’ of a cynic! It must be good.

Scuzzy bassline, spidery guitars, propulsive drums, dialect-inflected vocals, and a crescendo instead of a chorus... like the bastard lovechild of The Fall, The Pixies and Link Wray, Crying Lightning is simply so far beyond ugly, it’s brilliant. Given a considered gravity by producer Josh Homme that their previous work has lacked, it’s dirty, murky, heavy and there isn’t much to it, but that’s the point – Last Of The Shadow Puppets this ain’t, so if sophistication is your thing, turn away now, but otherwise enjoy the venom and grit.

Be warned: buy this and you will need to start squirreling away your pennies in preparation for the album’s imminent release a week later.

Madonna snubs stage deaths investigation

Madonna has allegedly refused to co-operate with officials investigating the collapse of her stage which killed two men.

The 4 Minutes singer has reportedly declined requests to be interviewed as the probe into the tragedy is launched.

Briton Charles Prow, 23, and Frenchman Charles Criscenzo, 53, were killed when the partially-built roof for the set caved in, bringing down a crane as it was being built at Marseille s Velodrome stadium. Five other crew members were seriously injured.

Magistrates say the 50-year-old star is an important witness as she has a £60 million contract with concert promoters Live Nation, the company organising the show.

Madonna, who is currently on the European leg of her 'Sticky and Sweet' world tour, paid tribute to all the workers, saying: "I'm devastated at the tragic news. My prayers go to those who were injured and their families."

The 50-year-old pop star was told of the death while she was rehearsing for her concert at Friuli Stadium, in Udine, Italy, last Thursday (16.07.09).

Later in the evening, she stopped her performance and tearfully told the audience: "I ask you for a moment to stop and think of the people who have lost their lives, we need to appreciate life, the people we love and our families."

Amy Winehouse to get her own scent

Amy Winehouse wants to launch her own perfume.

The troubled singer - who has publicly battled addictions to drink and drugs - and her father Mitch are keen to develop her trademark smokey look and put her name to a woman's fragrance.

A source said: "Mitch is keen to licence Amy s name to a perfume house. He has been in talks with manufacturers and contacted PR firms for advice.

"They want it to reflect her style with a classic smokey 1950s look and smell. Amy is keen to expand her brand and wants to get on the celebrity perfumes bandwagon while she can. They know her fans love to copy her style. Her trademark fashion and beehive hair-do were last year's must-have look."

However, fragrance experts are unsure about working with the Rehab singer - who is regularly photographed with a cigarette and alcoholic drink in hand - because they fear shoppers will be discouraged by her dishevelled appearance.

One perfume industry insider said: "Frankly, she doesn't look like she smells that nice, so doing some positive publicity to prove it doesn't just smell of stale alcohol and cigarettes would be vital."

Other pop stars who have launched their own signature scents include Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Jennifer Lopez.

Jackson could have another child

Michael Jackson is rumoured to have a fourth child.

Omer Bhatti, a 25-year-old Norwegian dancer, is thought to be the Billie Jean singer's child from a one night stand in 1984.

Michael, who passed away last month, is said to have admitted to friends in 2004 he was his father.

Omer is now believed to be seeking a DNA test to determine if he is a descendent of the King of Pop .

The performer was also given a front row seat at Michael's memorial service on July 7, sitting next to the star's brothers and sisters, fuelling speculation he is related to the pop icon.

Although Omer's mother Pia and her husband Riz - who have both worked for Michael - refuse to talk about the star, Pia did tell Britain's The Sun newspaper yesterday (21.07.09): "He was the King of Pop. But to us he was so much more."

Omer has also previously spoken about his special bond with the Thriller singer, describing his loyalty in 2008.

He said at the time: "Loyalty is the most important thing for me. I have contact with Michael, and I think my loyalty to him is the reason we still have our contact. He is an unbelievably good human being."

Omer also lived at Jackson's Neverland ranch home for several years from 1997, and video footage exists of him unwrapping presents with Michael and playing with a toddler, believed to be one of Michael s other children Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II, also known as Blanket, seven.

The dancer was also at Neverland, in California, when police raided the property to investigate child molestation allegations in 2003.

Omer first met Michael in Tunisia in 1996 aged 12, and impressed him with his dance moves. He has since performed with the Smooth Criminal singer in public and worked as a Michael tribute act across the globe.

The dancer's stepfather Riz is believed to have worked as a driver for Jackson while his mother is thought to have been a nanny.

Yesterday, Riz confirmed his stepson was in the front row for the emotional memorial concert at the Los Angeles Staples Center.

He said: "I know because I was watching. I told my wife, 'Just wait untilthe press see this. It's not a small thing. Make what you like. I don'twant to discuss anything."

Sugababes could have swine flu

SUGABABES have had to stop promoting their new single after two of them fell ill with flu.

Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah have bee diagnosed with a "severe bout of flu" and have been told to take at least a week off.

A statement from the girl group said: "They've been instructed to take at least a week off before a reassessment and so will unfortunately be out of action for at least the next seven days."

Writing on her Twitter page, Range said: "In a very bad mood 2day! Got the day off and had lots planned but not well so have had to stay at home on the sofa instead."

The group are yet to confirm whether the illness is linked to the current H1N1 swine flu virus, which has so far infected over 125,000 people worldwide.

Band member Keisha Buchanan wrote on her Twitter page that she knew friends who had contracted the virus.

She said: "Wow... Someone i know has swine flu... Get well soon hun :-( We'll laugh about it when ur all better.. Im already thinking of nick names lol."

Leona Lewis saves bunny from being eaten

Leona Lewis saved a rabbit from becoming a homeless man's dinner.

The Bleeding Love singer, who is a strict vegetarian, was shopping in Los Angeles when she saw the man with a white bunny on a lead.

When she asked him what he was going to do with the animal, he replied: "Don't know, probably eat it."

Shocked Leona then asked him to sell the rabbit to her so she could save its life and gave him $100, which she told him to go and spend on some food.

A friend said: "Leona is the proud owner of a new white rabbit called Melrose which she is keeping in her garden.

"She was shopping on Melrose Avenue last week when she spotted it being kept on a lead by a homeless man. She didn't think life on a lead was any way for a rabbit to live - then when he said he was going to eat it she knew she had to save it.

"Now it has the run of her garden without the fear of being cooked for dinner."

Leona - who is currently living in Los Angeles while she records her second album - is a huge animal rights supporter and last year turned down a £1 million offer from exclusive London store Harrods to open its summer sale because the store sold fur.

Tokio Hotel with Nokia?

"Part of the agreement with Nokia, is a poster campaign and an exclusive unplugged performance," he said (David Jost). The concert with acoustic instruments will take place in Germany, the tickets will only be raffled and not bought. ..."

Ciara: 'Spears a sweetheart to tour with'

Ciara has spoken out about supporting Britney Spears on her current world tour, insisting that the singer was a "sweetheart" to work with.

The 'Work' star opened for Spears on her British dates and recently confirmed that she would join the 'Womanizer' singer on the road again for her second tour of the US which kicks off in August.

Speaking to Rap-Up, she said: "I did a few days with her in the UK and that turned into us doing all these dates coming up, so I'm excited about it. The first time she came by, she was like, 'Hey Ciara! I just want you to know your show is great'.

"Backstage, it was really quiet, serene. It was just a cool vibe for women. We need to support each other and have good, positive energy around each other. That's what it was."

Ciara previously admitted that she had struggled with some of her performances during Spears's tour of the UK because she was suffering from a cold.

Jackson will be posthumously more popular

Tito Jackson says his brother Michael will become more popular than The Beatles or Elvis Presley now he is dead.

The former member of the Jackson Five – the group which launched his brother’s stratospheric career – has revealed Michael was bitter critics never classed him as one of the all-time truly great musicians during his lifetime.

Tito said: 'Michael always wanted people to think he was the greatest. I knew that, millions and millions of people knew that, but the media would never say it.

'They would never give him his due, even though he had all the records to prove it. They kept him below the mega-stardom reserved for Elvis and The Beatles. They would never put his name next to them. That’s all he wanted when he was living.'

The 55-year-old musician insists it is only since Michael’s untimely passing last month that the world has rediscovered his sibling’s music and humanitarian message.

Tito added to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: 'I love Elvis and The Beatles but Michael showed the world something we never imagined.

'Now that he’s dead he will rise even higher than them. He has definitely done more than them.

'It wasn’t just music – it had messages like 'Heal the World’ and 'We Are The World’. They were anthems for the world that brought people together.'

Sine his shock death on June 25, aged 50, it has been estimated the 'King of Pop’ has sold nine million albums worldwide.

Shakira used dictionary to write songs

SHAKIRA has admitted that she used to rely on a dictionary to write songs.

The Columbian singer's first language is Spanish but because she performs many of her sings in English, she struggled to get her lyrics to make sense.

She said: "Writing songs used to be so difficult for me. A few years ago I could barely speak English and I used to write my songs with a dictionary. It was a real labour of love and I would sit there for hours just looking up words. But now thankfully it comes to me more naturally and spontaneously."

Shakira recently revealed she hopes her forthcoming untitled album helps people "forget their troubles" by dancing to her up-beat tracks.

She said: "It's very electronic and dance-oriented, club-oriented. It's designed for people to have fun and enjoy themselves and forget about their troubles and the crisis.

Jackson's sister to release tribute record

LA TOYA JACKSON is set to release a tribute record to her late brother Michael.

The singer said she will make a song called Home, which was originally recorded in 2003 as a homage to her family, available on iTunes on July 28.

According to BBC News, all proceeds from the single will be donated to Aids Project LA, a charity which was supported by Michael Jackson.

Meanwhile, a hearing which will determine who will look after the singer's three children has been postponed for the second time.

It has been re-scheduled to take place on August 3 .

His mother Katherine Jackson is currently the temporary guardian of his children, two of which are the children of his ex-wife Debbie Rowe.

Dido goes back to what she knows best

DIDO has said she will return to her "electronic roots" for her forthcoming fourth album.

The singer-songwriter is working on the follow-up to 2008's Safe Trip Home, which saw her experiment with a different approach to music.

Writing on her website, she said: "I intentionally didn't use any electronics on the third album. It was a challenge that started as a small thought and then turned into a big theme of the record.

"We had a lot of fun creating sounds from all manner of instruments - bells, wind instruments, strings, brass, pots, pans, cans, sandpaper, anything. This was instead of using anything pre-programmed."

She added: "It was a great learning experience for me and also made me a much better musician pretty quickly!

"It's also making me really appreciate the joy of electronics again on this new album I'm making. It's good to take a break and now I'm celebrating my electronic roots again."

Dido's fourth studio album is scheduled to be released early next year

Mike sued.

UK pop singer Mika is set to be sued by a female reggae artist who claims he stole her name.

Belgian chanteuse Mika says the Grace Kelly singer, whose full name is Mica Penniman, should change his moniker as she registered the name in the 80s.

She said: "I was called Mika before him and have registered the name. Even though his real name is Mica, I think he should change it."

The reggae singer - who has released five albums in her native Belgium - also wants Mika to pay her damages.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "She's not happy. There's only enough room for one Mika in the pop world - and she was here first."

Belgian Mika released her debut single, MLK, in 1989 but it wasn't a big hit and neither were her subsequent releases.

In contrast, the other Mika - whose family were forced to flee war-torn Lebanon for Paris before later settling in London - saw his debut album, Life In Cartoon Motion, sell more than three million copies worldwide.

If the Love Today singer is forced to change his name, he will not be the first.

In 2001, Popstars' runners-up Liberty had to change their moniker to Liberty X while Irish boyband Westlife were originally known as Westside.

Bang! Showbiz

Mika debuts new song

MIKA debuted his new single on the radio today.

The singer premiered We Are Golden on Ken Bruce's morning show on BBC Radio 2's and said he was "nervous as a seven-year-old girl".

The Love Today star revealed that writing the his new album, recorded at the Olympic Studios in London, had been like a second adolescence.

He said: "I wish I had written [the LP] when I was a teenager. I used to write music to give me a feeling of value and get me through a lot of things."

Mika releases new single 'We Are Golden' on September 6 and the album of the same name on September 21.

Jackson's brother blames doctor for death

Tito Jackson claims Dr. Conrad Murray's "panicking" helped cause his brother's death.

Tito - who was left devastated when brother Michael of a suspected cardiac arrest last month - accused the pop legend's physician of wasting vital minutes by not getting help quickly enough after he collapsed and stopped breathing.

He said: "My opinion is that he panicked when my brother didn't wake up.

"I think the doctor probably figured he was in trouble and he tried to revive Michael. He did have a pulse but he couldn't bring him back.

"I don't know what the time lapse was between the doctor finding him and when he called paramedics.

"But I believe if he had immediately called for help we might still have my brother here today, he would definitely still be alive."

Tito also accused Murray of failing to carry out CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) correctly. In the aftermath of Michael's passing it was revealed the physician CPR on the dying star while he lay on a soft bed instead of the accepted practice of a hard surface.

Tito, 55, added in an interview on Spanish TV: "The CPR attempt is one of the things I noticed that was very strange.

"CPR is one of the first things you learn to do as a doctor, and you don't do it on a soft bed."

When asked whether he thought Michael had been murdered, Tito replied: "Anything is possible.

"It's a very strong word, the police are investigating what happened. Until there is some kind of revelation, I don't want to comment. Everything is on the table."

Meanwhile, Michael's mother has asked for a judge's ruling on whether she can challenge the authority of the two men named in his will as the executors of his estate.

Although the filing does not challenge the appointment of lawyer John Branca and music executive John McClain, a favourable ruling for Katherine Jackson could help her gain control of her son's estate, which is valued at more than $500 million.
