Grammy Awards 2010 Nominations Preview

Who will nab the bids when the nominees for the 52nd Grammy Awards are announced on Dec. 2? Its been a banner year for music, so there's no clear frontrunner, but there will be plenty of familiar faces in the running for multiple awards. So far, the drama swirling around this year's nominations encompasses not only who will be recognized, but who isn't eligible and whether or not the Grammy committee will change the rules to accommodate one particularly "famous' singer and songwriter for the coveted Best New Artist category.

Billboard runs down some of the leading contenders - and a few long shots - for the 52nd Grammy Awards nominations. Check back on Dec. 3 and see who made the list - and who didn't.

PLAYLIST: Listen to some of the songs and artists that could garner 2010 Grammy Award nominations nominations.

Lady Gaga has had year for the history books, becoming the first artist in the 17-year history of Billboard's Pop Songs chart to notch four No. 1s from a debut album, being honored as Billboard's Rising Star and selling more than 1.5 million copies of her album "The Fame." Gaga seems like a shoe-in for multiple Grammy nominations, including Record, Album and Song of the year. She's also part the the biggest controversy leading up to the nominations announcement: due to the fact that her single "Just Dance" was nominated in the Best Dance Recording category last year, she is currently ineligible for best New Artist consideration. But that may change when the Grammy's awards and nominations committee meets. "We change the rules frequently," Grammy president Neil Portow said this week. "We recognize that situation is not perfect, and we are looking at ways to figure it out.

U2 seemed to have a 360 degree view of the world this year, setting attendance records at every stop on Bono and company's high tech world tour. But it was "No Line on the Horizon," the band's twelfth album and its strongest recording in nearly a decade, that lifted the band into the outer stratosphere. THe band sang with a new urgency on singles like "Get On Your Boots," "Magnificent" and "If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight," a song that herlads back to the finest moments on its breakthrough "The Joshua Tree." U2 debuted "Boots" on the 2009 Grammy Awards broadcast despite the song not being eligible for an award; they hope to collect on that down payment this year.

Allen Toussaint, the legendary New Orleans artist/songwriter/producer, teamed with producer Joe Henry for his most recent album, a collection of covers entitled "The Bright Mississippi." With a host of jazz notables like Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman, Marc Ribot, Don Byron and Nicholas Payton back him up, Toussaint tackles standards like Duke Ellington's "Solitude," Thelonious Monk's "Bright Mississippi" and Django Reinhardt's "Blue Drag." with Herbie Hancock's surprise win with "The River" in mind, this classic New Orleans musician is definitely in the running for a Grammy nomination.

Green Day reemerged from its five-year break with a brand new rock opera-style song cycle called "21st Century Breakdown," which sent the pioneering pop punk band back to the top of the Billboard 200 the week it was released. "Breakdown" gave the band its second chart-topper, following 2004's "American Idiot," its celebrated breakthrough that saw the Bay Area-based ban take home two Grammys - Best Rock Album in 2005 and Record of the Year in 2006. Now, with a stage musical version of "American Idiot" headed to Broadway, Green Day may add to its Grammy collection.

Whitney Houston, like a true diva, returned to the Billboard 200 in grand style. "I Look To You" was Houston's fourth No. 1 album on the chart and first since the Houston-fueled "The Bodyguard" soundtrack spent 20 weeks at No. 1 in 1993. On the album's title track, her first single in more than seven years, the lead single from her first album in seven years, Houston is both vulnerable and in control. The singer re-enters the spotlight with a stoic ballad about rising again after a fall from grace, with all the literal resonance that brings. Her comeback began at a pre-Grammy party before the 2009 awards, and she'll return for a victory turn in 2010.

Phoenix, the little synth-heavy French pop band that could, aren't eligible for Best new Artist this year because the band's breakthrough album, "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix," is actually its fourth. But after changing labels, marathon recording sessions at the Bowery Hotel in New York and a surprising appearance on Saturday Night Live (the group's US network television debut), the band made up for lost time. Its hard to see the Grammy's not recognizing the Phoenix phenomenon, and can't be counted out as a dark horse for the Record of the Year nomination.

Maxwell may have been on a hiatus from music since 2002, but with the release of "BLACKsummers'night" it's as if he never left. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with a career-high sales week of 316,000, his tours have been selling out all over the country and his first single from the album, "Pretty Wings" remains one of the most romantic tracks of the year. Maxwell is a strong contender for multiple Grammy nominations.

Taylor Swift is racking up the accolades these days, with multiple wins for her record-setting "Fearless" album including honors at the American Music Awards, the Country Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards and the CMT Awards, among others. She was nominated for Best New Artist in 2009 but did not take home the prize. Now the question isn't if, but how many Grammy Awards she'll walk with next year.

Black Eyed Peas spent 14 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "I Gotta Feeling, matching Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" for longest No. 1 stay this decade. The Peas held the No. 1 position for 26 straight weeks, with "Boom Boom Pow" preceding "Feeling" with a 12-week run, making them the second act in the 51-year history of the Hot 100 to remain at No. 1 for a half a calendar year or more. Look for that unprecedented chart success to be mirrored by an impressive number of Grammy Award nominations.

Kanye West may need to be restrained at the Grammy Awards this year, and his behavior at the MTV Awards may even have hurt his chances for a nomination. The controversial "808s and Heartbreaks" saw the rapper working out his pain through Auto-tune.

Jay-Z's acclaimed "Blueprint 3" is not eligible for Album of the Year due to its post-Sept. 1 release, but the hip-hop veteran could earn a nod for "Run This Town," the album's lead single featuring Rihanna and Kanye West.

Beyonce, R&B's top diva and Billboard's Woman of the Year, could contend for Record or Song of the Year with "Single Ladies," her endlessly YouTube'd, late-'08 anthem that danced its way to the top of the Hot 100.

Drake has not even released his debut album -- "Thank Me Later," due next year -- yet, but the upstart Canadian rapper/singer still broke out in a big way in '09, igniting a major label bidding war and peaking at No. 2 on the Hot 100 with his "So Far Gone" mixtape's breakout song, "Best I Ever Had."

Owl City the electro-pop artist and Minnesota native also known as Adam Young, has released two albums independently, but it's his major-label debut "Ocean Eyes" that has everyone atwitter, especially after its blippy lead single "Fireflies" shot up to No. 1 on the Hot 100 this fall.

Keri Hilson worked for years as a songwriter behind the scenes, but in March she released her hit-filled debut album "In a Perfect World...," reaching No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and No. 3 on the Hot 100 with the single "Knock You Down" featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo.

Kings of Leon finally had a certified hit with "Sex on Fire" the first single from Nashville rockers' fourth album "Only by the Night." But they outdid themselves with the follow-up single "Use Somebody," reaching No. 2 on Rock Songs and No. 4 on the Hot 100.

Norah Jones Announces 2010 Tour Dates

Although her new album is entitled "The Fall," Norah Jones is waiting until spring to embark on a 36 city tour, which kicks off Mar. 5, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The trek will see the veteran jazz-pop singer play midsize theatres in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago -- but also hit many smaller markets like Akron, Ohio; El Paso, Texas; and Mobile, Alabama. Several shows go on sale Dec. 4 with the rest becoming available before the end of the year.

"The Fall" is Jones' fourth studio album and she's currently riding a wave of critical praise, although it's unknown how she'll work in the new, more roots-rock approach to her songwriting on this upcoming tour. "The Fall" features collaborations with Okkervil River's Will Sheff, Ryan Adams, Marc Ribot and Smokey Hormel and sees Jones leaving behind the slow balladry that defined her early work.

Jones' fans seem to welcome this new approach. Last week, "The Fall" debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 180,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. Yet instead of hitting the road immediately, Jones has spent November making the television rounds - including performances on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The View," "Good Morning America" and interview segments on ABC News' "Nightline" and CNN's "Headline News." But that's not all: on December 15 and 16, she'll perform on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" followed by "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"

While fans become acquainted with her new tunes over the next few months, they can also look forward to three new remixes - all of which will be released on Jan. 12, 2010 as digital downloads and on vinyl. The single "Chasing Pirates" will get remixed by Santigold as well as Beck's remix collective the Droogs. The song "That's What I Said," which is featured on the latest "NCIS" soundtrack, gets the remix treatment from the Beastie Boys' Adrock and Mike D.

Miley Cyrus Says She Has No Interest In 'Twilight'

With the release of "New Moon" just a few days away, "Twilight" mania seems to be taking over Hollywood. But at least one starlet wants nothing to do with the vampire craze. In a backstage interview at a show in Cleveland, Miley Cyrus told radio station Q92 that she's neither Team Edward nor Team Jacob — in fact, she's not even on team "Twilight." The singer said that not only has she never watched the vampire flick, but she doesn't plan to.

"I've never seen it and nor will I ever," Miley told surprised Q92 reporter Nikolina. The starlet went on to elaborate on what exactly it is about "Twilight" that offends her.

"I don't believe in it. I don't like vampires. ... I don't like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I'm watching my TV at night. I don't like it. I don't want anything to do with it. I don't like the shirts. I don't like any of it," she said.

But Miley knows she's in the minority when it comes to teenagers and the "Twilight" phenomenon: "I feel really lame because everyone's, like, so excited, and I'm like, 'Don't even talk about it.' "

Yet, as anti-"Twilight" as she may be, the "Hannah Montana" actress might just be forced to watch the series — if nothing more than for research. The singer recently signed up to work with "Twilight" producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey on "Wings," a fantasy movie — which bears some resemblance to the vampire series — about a 15-year-old who becomes a fairy.

It's not the first time the Disney star has gone against a popular trend. The singer of "Party in the U.S.A.," in which she claims a Jay-Z song helped ease her transition to L.A., recently admitted that she's never actually heard Jay-Z and that she doesn't really listen to pop music.

Miley, who was originally a huge proponent of the social-networking tool Twitter, also prompted a lot of chatter after she suddenly left the site and told a Chicago morning show that "Twitter should just be banned from this universe."

The Fame Monster

Lady Gaga's sophomore album, 'The Fame Monster,' has only 8 songs, you say? Try 8 songs that you won't be able to get out of your head no matter how hard you try. Think this eclectic style icon is just a flash in the pan? Tell that to Billboard. Lady Gaga is the first artist to chart four #1 hits at Top 40 Radio: 'Just Dance,' 'LoveGame,' 'Poker Face,' and 'Paparazzi.' Even now, 'Bad Romance,' Lady Gaga's first single from 'The Fame Monster' is tearing up the Hot 100. 'The Fame Monster' is set to hit stores on November 23rd.

Jackson's 'This Is It' Passes $200 Million Worldwide

Michael Jackson's concert movie "This Is It" has taken more than $200 million at box offices worldwide in the first two weeks of release, the studio behind the movie said on Thursday.

Sony Pictures Entertainment said the movie had grossed $61 million in North America and more than $140 million internationally. Japan ($27.2 million) and the UK ($14.3 million) were particularly strong markets.

The movie is now the 22nd biggest grossing movie worldwide of 2009, according to industry tracker boxofficemojo.com

"This Is It", distributed by Sony Corp-owned Columbia Pictures, was compiled from footage of Jackson rehearsing for a series of planned comeback concerts before his sudden death in June.

Sony paid concert promoters AEG and Jackson's estate about $60 million for the right to make and distribute the movie.

The $200 million plus gross is almost three times more than 2008's "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour" -- a movie some box office watchers had used as a benchmark for "This Is It."

The Jackson film opened on October 28 for a planned two week run but has since been extended until early December.

Adam Lambert's "Time For Miracles" Single Leaks Early

Adam Lambert's new single "Time for Miracles" has leaked online, a week in advance of its planned Oct. 27 debut.

The song, which anchors the soundtrack to the upcoming apocalypse-themed movie "2012," was originally scheduled to premiere along with its music video during screenings of Michael Jackson's "This Is It" movie. But "Time for Miracles" hit iTunes Italy store over the weekend and quickly made its way to YouTube.

"Baby you know that, baby it's time for miracles/'Cause I ain't givin' up on love," Lambert booms on the power ballad's chorus, showcasing his vocal prowess.

"Time for Miracles" was produced by Rob Cavallo, who is also said to have collaborated with Lambert on his forthcoming debut album, reportedly now due Nov. 23. Lambert has been recording material for his solo debut with a host of hitmakers, including Max Martin, Pink, Linda Perry and Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald.

Rihanna's New Album Is 'Rated R'

After much speculation, Def Jam Records announced today (Oct. 20) that Rihanna will be releasing her fourth studio album, "Rated R," on Nov. 23. "Russian Roulette," the first single, will premiere today at 11:23 a.m. EST on Rihanna's official website, rihannannow.com, while an accompanying video, directed by Anthony Mandler, will debut on ABC.

"Russian Roulette" was written and produced by labelmate Ne-Yo ("Take A Bow," "Hate That I Love You"). The-Dream, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Chase & Status and Justin Timberlake are among the other collaborators and producers who appear on "Rated R."

"Rated R" is the follow-up to 2007's "Good Girl Gone Bad," which spawned the hit single "Umbrella," among others, and the first official release from Rihanna since the February altercation with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. The album has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Miley Cyrus Rides A Flying Motorcyle, Wears Elaborate Dresses On 'Wonder World' Tour

Miley Cyrus' new Time of Our Lives EP is in the Billboard Top 10 again this week, and her big tour supporting the Wal-Mart exclusive release (which features her latest gigantic single "Party in the U.S.A.") is under way and rolling across the country. Last night, her bus stopped at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for a run through her already-huge catalog of hits.

Cyrus' big shows consisted of over two dozen songs (including hits "The Climb," "7 Things," "Breakout" and "See You Again") along with a handful of excellent set pieces, including a giant floating motorcycle.

Elsewhere in the show, she changed into an elaborate dress and later shifted to a more traditional Daisy Duke look. The highlight? During "Fly on the Wall," Cyrus flew over the crowd like the titular fly. She also dropped in a brief tribute to Michael Jackson's "Thriller," complete with zombie dancing and the Vincent Price laugh that closes the song.

After stepping briefly off the grid for a while, Cyrus has been back in the public eye constantly. Her new EP dropped, she delivered some memorable performances on "VH1 Divas" and her new video for "Party in the U.S.A." will premiere on tonight's episode of "Dancing with the Stars."

Robbie's new video inspired by aftershave ads

Robbie Williams’ new music video was inspired by aftershave adverts.

The pop star wanted the promo for 'Bodies' to examine different conspiracy theories, but caved in to his record label's demand to make it like a TV commercial for a fragrance.

The 35-year-old singer said: 'The song itself is a big conspiracy-laden song. Its where my head’s been for the last three years, on the internet watching films like 'Zeitgeist', 'The God That Wasn’t There' and '9/11 Was An Inside Job'.

"But if I'd put that in the video, the public would have said, 'He’s definitely gone mental’. So I said, 'What do you think we should do?’ And my record company said, 'Let's do an aftershave advert’, and I’m like, 'Cool!’ '

Robbie's eighth studio album 'Reality Killed The Video Star' is due for release in November, but the star is worried people won't like his brand of pop this time around.

He told MTV News: "I don’t know if people have got their ears on for me but I’m knocking at the door going, 'Do you want some of this again or not?'

'I’m alright if you don’t like it or if you do. I think the next couple of months will define the rest of my life.'

Michael Jackson to release new single

Michael Jackson is releasing a posthumous single on October 12.

The late 'Bad’ singer’s – who died in June of acute Propofol intoxication – brand new song 'This Is It’ to being released ahead of a two-disc album of the same name.

John McClain, co-producer of the LP and co-executor of his estate, said: 'This song only defines, once again, what the world already knows - that Michael is one of God's greatest gifts.'

The new record includes tracks featured in the upcoming movie 'This Is It’, which follows Michael as he prepares for the comeback shows he was due to perform at London’s O2 arena from July.

The first disc features some of Michael’s biggest hits, including two versions of new track 'This Is It’.

Michael’s website states: 'This song is featured in the film's closing sequence and includes backing vocals by Michael's brothers, The Jacksons.

'Disc two offers previously unreleased versions of some of the artist's classic tracks. This disc also features a touching spoken word poem from Michael Jackson entitled 'Planet Earth’ that has never been heard before.'

The album will be on sale internationally from October 26 and in North America on October 27.

The movie 'This Is It’ hits cinemas worldwide on October 28, with a series of premieres taking place at the same time in cities across the globe.

The Spice Girls to play one-off South Africa date

The Spice Girls are to play a one-off concert in South Africa.

The group sparked rumours of a reunion last week when four former members – Mel B, Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton - had dinner together in London and it has now emerged they were discussing plans for a special show to launch the soccer World Cup next year.

Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte have brokered the deal and are keen to press ahead with the plan – even though Victoria Beckham doesn’t want to take part.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: "Mel is determined to get the girls back together for the World Cup and wants them to plough ahead as a foursome if Victoria doesn't want to take part.

"She has got the others excited by the idea of a one-off appearance. They are very interested."

Following the quartet’s dinner at The Palm restaurant in London last week, Mel was the first of the 'Wannabe’ hitmakers to hint at a reunion.

She posted on her Twitter page afterwards: "Spice girls, stadiums?????????? Had dinner with the amazing melc emma and geri I love them so much (sic)."

Geri further fuelled the speculation earlier this week when she confirmed they had been discussing 'creative plans'.

The singer – who walked out on the group in May 1998 – said: "We are friends first and foremost. Obviously a career and music evolved through that friendship I think. Whatever happens afterwards is a bonus. We always talk about creative plans. Right - now, I'll be honest. We are gathering information about a possibility, but I don't like to... when you are evolving a plan, you don't want to share it with the world."

The girl group shot to fame in 1996 with their hit single 'Wannabe'. They sold over 65 million albums before going their separate ways in 2001.

They briefly reformed in 2007 for the hugely successful 'Return of the Spice Girls' tour, which saw them perform 47 concerts across the world.

The group had planned to perform in South Africa, but cut the tour short. In addition to axing proposed concerts in Cape Town, they also failed to schedule promised dates in Beijing, Sydney and Buenos Aires.

Lily Allen quits music industry

Lily Allen has quit the music industry.

The 'Fear’ singer made the announcement on her new blog – called It’s Not Alright, which aims to stop people file sharing music on the internet – revealing she has no plans to release new songs or tour again.

She wrote: 'Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.

'The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material.'

The 24-year-old star is now focusing on her appearance in a London theatre production called 'Reasons to be Pretty’, which follows a group of working-class people who are bored with their lives.

It is not the first time Lily has voiced her desire to give up her singing career.

Earlier this month, she said: 'I'm not going record and tour again for quite a while.

"I finish up my dates in March and I'll be ready to do something else. I've been on the road for four years and I've given my voice a real run for its money. I'm struggling, so I'm going to try something new.

"The play is about themes close to my heart, about the really damaging cult of beauty among young girls.'

Red Hot Chili Peppers nominated for Hall of Fame

Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on their first year of eligibility.

Artists can be inducted 25 years after their debut release and both the 'Californication’ hitmakers and rapper LL Cool J have made the shortlist in their first year of contention for the honour.

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith said: 'It’s a real honour to be nominated in our first year of eligibility. Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste."

After 10 years of being snubbed by the nominating committee, 'Crazy Nights’ rockers KISS have received their first nomination for induction, after previously blasting the Hall of Fame for ignoring them.

Founder member Gene Simmons complained last year: "There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not KISS. I believe we have more gold records in America than any other group, but it’s OK.'

However, the nomination could cause them problems with the ballot listing the four original members, Gene, Paul Stanley Ace Frehley and Peter Criss but Paul – who along with Gene remains in the group – is unsure the right people are listed.

Paul said: "There have been a lot of people who've been a part of this, some longer than others and some who deserve recognition more than others. Even the non-make-up years produced some platinum and double-platinum albums, and we had some very healthy sales in terms of albums and concerts through the '80s and '90s. So if we should ever be asked to accept induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it would be something to think about."

Also nominated for the first time are Genesis, The Hollies and Jimmy Cliff.

They join previously suggested artists ABBA, The Chantels, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, The Stooges and Donna Summer.

Five of the 12 nominees will be chosen for induction from ballots cast by more than 500 music industry voters.

The chosen five will be revealed in January, with an induction ceremony taking place on March 15 at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2010 nominees:

ABBA
The Chantels
Darlene Love
Donna Summer
Genesis
The Hollies
Jimmy Cliff
KISS
Laura Nyro
LL Cool J
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Stooges

Miley Cyrus closes down restaurant

Miley Cyrus had a restaurant closed so she and 100 friends could party together.

The 'Hannah Montana’ star wanted to celebrate her sold-out concert at Los Angeles Staples Center on Tuesday night (22.09.09) by dining at the newly-opened eatery Katsuya.

The 16-year-old star told bosses she wanted privacy 'no matter the cost' so booked out the entire restaurant.

Miley was dressed in an open back, black mini-dress and high black boots as she sipped on a special Katsuya drink.

A source added to website RadarOnline: 'She was in great spirits and danced almost the whole night.'

Miley was keen to keep her party private as she recently claimed her life is being ruined by the paparazzi.

The 'See You Again' singer blasted photographers who follow her everywhere and has branded the profession "disgusting".

She wrote on her Twitter page: "Being a paparazzi is the most DISGUISTING job imaginable.

"Being followed around by creepy photographers is NOT in the job description! YOU try being stuck inside cuz creepers are waiting for u (sic)."

Jackie Jackson can't get over brothers death

Jackie Jackson cries himself to sleep over his brother Michael’s death.

The 58-year-old musician is struggling to cope with his younger brother’s tragic passing in June from acute Propofol intoxication and often wakes up feeling overwhelmed with grief.

He told ET Online: "It's hard for me to sleep because I think about him constantly, all the time. Sometimes I wake up with tears in my eyes because he meant so much to the world and also to me as a brother. I just miss him dearly, so much and I just can't believe he is not here."

The former Jackson Five singer and his brothers Marlon and Tito have spoken out about the last time they saw Michael alive.

The four men had an emotional reunion at a party in celebration of their parents Katherine and Joe’s 60th wedding anniversary just weeks before Michael’s death.

Tito said: "I told him that I loved him and he told me that he loved me more. We gave each other a hug and that whole thing. So, I was very happy that I had the opportunity to see him at that moment. And that's the last time I saw my brother.'

Marlon added: "What's comforting for me is that I think he is at a better place for himself. And a piece of him will live forever within me. So, that's my peace."

Jackie – real name Sigmund Esco Jackson – also revealed how excited the 'Thriller’ singer was about performing for loved-ones at his record-breaking 'This Is It’ London residency, which was due to open in July.

Jackie explained: 'I asked him, 'How's it going?' And he said, 'It's going to be incredible.' He couldn't wait for us to see the show. He wouldn't tell us anything about it. He just wanted us to see it from our own eyes."

Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon nominated for five MTV EMAs

Lady Gaga and Kings of Leon have been nominated for five MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).

The singer and the band will both compete for Best Song, for 'Poker Face’ and 'Use Somebody’ respectively, Best Live Act and Best World Stage Performance, with Gaga also nominated for Best Female and Best New Act, while Kings of Leon are also up for the Best Group and Best Rock prizes.

Beyonce Knowles follows them in the nominations list, receiving nods in four categories, while Eminem and Green Day are each up for three accolades.

American artists dominate the shortlists, with Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Kanye West and Black Eyed Peas each named in two categories.

The Beatles continue breaking records

Underlining their timeless appeal and unique status in music, The Beatles have broken multiple chart records around the world following the September 9, 2009 (9-9-09) CD release of their digitally re-mastered catalogue.

In the major music markets of North America, Japan and the UK, consumers purchased more than 2.25 million copies of The Beatles' re-mastered albums, individually and in two multiple-CD boxed sets, one in stereo and one in mono, during the first five days of release (excluding non-traditional retail outlets whose sales are not tracked by the chart compilers).

The Beatles' original UK studio albums were re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release

Miley Cyrus says paparazzi ruin her life

Miley Cyrus claims her life is being ruined by the paparazzi.

The 'See You Again’ singer has blasted photographers who follow her everywhere and has branded the profession 'disgusting'.

The 16-year-old singer wrote on her Twitter page: 'Being a paparazzi is the most DISGUISTING job imaginable.

'Being followed around by creepy photographers is NOT in the job description! YOU try being stuck inside cuz creepers are waiting for u. [sic]'

In reply to her comments gossip blogger Perez Hilton defended photographers, saying: 'But some of them are your friends! You're always chummy with that one videographer!'

Miley – who has sold over four million records - has previously revealed she has bad dreams about being photographed.

She said: 'I have nightmares about paparazzi. I always have these flashing things in my dreams. They're so scary."

Miley has also released a song, 'Fly On The Wall’, about the pitfalls of fame.

Elliot Minor new single and Abbey Road video

After an incredible 2008/09 so far, which has included a debut top 10 album, 2 full headline UK and European tours, European dates with Simple Plan, Radio 1 B listed singles, over 125,000 singles sold and a whole run of festivals, ELLIOT MINOR are now set to release their new single 'Electric High’ on October 5th and second album 'Solaris’ October 19th.

'Electric High’ signifies a more mature leap forward in every department for ELLIOT MINOR, from playing to song writing, production and ambition. Along with recent single 'Solaris’, front man and songwriter Alex Davies started writing the new material as soon as the band came off the road in December last year. The new songs pull from the band’s experiences of making and touring their first album, as songwriter Alex Davies says 'I had heard about the pressures of a second album on the songwriter and I can assure you it is true, you have all your life to write your first album and months to write your second. Fortunately I had a load of melodies running around my head and lyric ideas that pulled from the changes in my life over the years that Elliot Minor was formed till now. The majority of the songs are uplifting as I was being positive in a pretty tough year to work through and the others are more personal and intimate.

The new single was recorded during the album sessions starting in April this year at Chapel Studios in Lincoln and at Mavehole Studios in York. Produced once again by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank, Something Corporate) and mixed by the multi Grammy award winning Tom Lord-Alge (Manic Street Preachers, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, The Rolling Stones), this second collaboration meant that the band and Jim knew what had worked before but gave them a lot of room to add new creative ideas and to push into bold new territory. Jim Wirt says 'Electric High was a natural,.everything came together immediately! We ended up using the original scratch vocal, and the original guitars, this is what makes this song stand out, nothing contrived about it.' Live wise, the band have played Oxegen, T in the Park, Leeds and Reading and Download last year. They also played main support to Simple Plan in Europe and

Fall Out Boy in the UK, have been to Japan three times doing their own headline shows, have toured as a headline act through Europe into Paris, Prague, Brussels and Amsterdam on every tour. Geri Halliwell confirms Spice Girls reunion

Geri Halliwell has confirmed the Spice Girls are discussing reforming again.

The singer, who famously quit the girl band in May 1998, says she and the other members – Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C – are considering getting back together for a third time.

She said on UK TV show 'This Morning’: "We are friends first and foremost. Obviously a career and music evolved through that friendship I think. Whatever happens afterwards is a bonus. We always talk about creative plans. Right - now, I'll be honest: We are gathering information about a possibility, but I don't like to... when you are evolving a plan, you don't want to share it with the world."

Her comments come just days after she met up for dinner with Emma and the two Mels, where it is thought they discussed the plans.

Mel B later hinted at an imminent reunion, writing on her Twitter account: "Spice girls, stadiums?????????? Had dinner with the amazing melc emma and geri I love them so much (sic)."

Victoria was not at the meeting, because she was busy launching her Spring/Summer 10 collection at New York Fashion Week.
