Michael Jackson Doc DVD Due In January

"This Is It," the Michael Jackson concert film, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on Jan. 26, 2010, distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is expected to announce today (Monday, Nov. 30).

Both versions of the Kenny Ortega-helmed film, which chronicles the three months of rehearsals for what was to have been Jackson's comeback tour, will come with more than 90 minutes of extras, including the two documentaries "Staging the Return: Beyond the Show" and "Staging the Return: The Adventure Begins," both about the comeback tour and Jackson's plans and preparations for it.

Also included are featurettes on the costumes and dance auditions and a "Memories of Michael" piece, in which director Ortega and the crew of "This Is It" share personal stories about working with Jackson on the tour preparations and rehearsals.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray Disc release are complete, uncut versions of the "Smooth Criminal" and "Thriller" music videos, portions of which appeared in the theatrical version of the film.

"This Is It" has grossed more than $70 million in U.S. theaters and $168 million worldwide since its late-October opening. The film was initially supposed to be in theaters for only two weeks, with the DVD and Blu-ray Disc scheduled to arrive before Christmas.
